Please check which version of our Premium Product do you use. NOTE: that if you are our customer using Premium V2 you should consider upgrading to Version 3. Support for Premium V2 will be terminated at the end of this week meaning there will be no more data file updates and no technical support available.

The Data team has added 191 new internet enabled devices this week consisting of 87 tablets, 95 Smartphones and 9 others.

Please note that if you are still using 51Degrees Version 2 we strongly recommend upgrading to Version 3 which brings a wealth of feature and performance improvements. Be aware that support for Version 2 will cease at the end of May 2015, meaning there will be no more data file updates or available technical support for Version 2.

This week our data team have been working on bringing the new property of Supports phone call. This will be displayed as TRUE or FALSE letting you know if the device is capable of making regular phone calls using SIM and not over the internet.

Every day consumer electronic vendors fuel the growing demand for smartphones, tablets and smartwatches by releasing new web enabled devices. From the mighty Apple iPhone and iPad to the relative smaller-scale like Gionee, Oppo and Fly, 51Degrees research their devices and enter the device specifications and other information into our database.

For many marketers it's essential to know how each device and platform is performing. 51Degrees provide a tool which aggregates usage information from over 3 billion unique web visits per month and shows vendors exactly how their models are performing by country and month. This information differs to sales figures and show real usage of the web.

4G technology provides mobile broadband Internet access, it is the fourth generation of mobile network. In comparison with its predecessor (3G), 4G has a higher peak bit rates, improved frequency bands and a better capacity for many simultaneous data transfers that are important requirements for the newest mobile devices.

Last week 51Degrees data team added 239 devices into the device database. Among them: Microsoft Lumia 640 XL smartphone which was first presented at MWC15 in Barcelona.

W/C 30th March 2015 - 3 changes have been made to the meta data to support new sensor types and to better report on mobile devices emulating desktops. 246 devices were added including the LG G Flex 2. These changes were made in consultation with our users and will enable you to detect a couple of newer features available on modern smart devices today.

Scala is becoming increasingly popular as it allows concise code with a strong type system. It can also access all Java libraries as it runs in the the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). In this blog we'll use the 51Degrees Maven Java library to perform device detection using Scala code. The blog assumes the reader is familiar with Maven and Scala.
