Apple go out of their way to make it hard to identify the model of iPhone that's accessing a website. At 51Degrees, we have a two tier approach. Firstly, we use HTTP headers, mainly the user agent, to understand if there's information that allows us to identify the iPhone. Often this happens when the user agent is coming from an app. When we're not getting it from the app, when we're getting the information from Safari or one of the other browsers on IOS, then we do a second stage. We run some JavaScript, this gives us more information that allows us to either narrow down the precise model or a group of models that the iPhone might be. This is really, really important when it comes to OpenRTB and advertising, because the HTTP headers alone in that second situation are not going to enable the DSP or the SSP to work out the iPhone model. And there's a big difference between an iPhone 12 and an iPhone 16 when it comes to age and capability. This might have an impact on the advertising that's served to that particular device. All of this happens seamlessly with the 51Degrees services and is built into all our prepaid client side modules. So check out the documentation on the website today around how we handle Apple and then also look at OpenRTB and what we do with Prebid. Get started, make more money from Apple.
