Budget Friendly Smartphones
In January earlier this year we released information about our plans to support operating system subversions. During April we made changes so that 51Degrees provides information about both Android and iOS software subversions. We're now happy to announce the imminent release of the second stage of our subversion plan, adding support for subversions in the native Android browsers. This new information will be available soon to all of our customers and all four tiers of our product, Lite, Basic, Premium and Enterprise.
ZTE Q519T
Following on from last week's budget tablet theme, this week we take a quick look at two of the newest low cost smartphones from ZTE. Founded 30 years ago in China, ZTE now stands as a rising star in the telecommunications industry amidst strong competition with other Chinese brands such as Lenovo and Huawei. Firstly we're going to look at the new ZTE Q5129T, this model has a 5.0 inch LCD display with a 1280 x 720 pixel resolution and 18 bits per pixel, so far so good.
The system on a chip is a MediaTek 6735 which has a quad-core Cortex-A53 operating at 1.0GHz, a Mali-T720 MP2 GPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and a MicroSD card slot with support for an additional 32GB storage. A large 4,000mAh battery is included which ZTE claim will allow the budget-friendly smartphone to offer up to 35 days of standby. Photo wise there is a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 2MP front-facing unit.
Connectivity features include LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, Micro-USB OTG and naturally, considering this is a phone for the Chinese market, the ever popular dual-SIM support. The ZTE Q519T will be available in blue, white or gold and is available for less than $100 in the Chinese market. It's almost 9mm thick, pretty weighty and nothing special to look at, but for these specifications at this price point it's an absolute bargain.
ZTE Q302C
The second budget-friendly smartphone this week is the ZTE Q302C. When it came to market it claimed to be the first smartphone utilising Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 210. Although the Snapdragon 410, 610 and 810 are all 64-bit, the 210 is not, it's more an evolution of the Snapdragon 200 with added LTE rather than the next generation budget chipset. Like the Q5129T there is a 5 inch screen but unfortunately the resolution is only 480 x 800.
The Snapdragon 210 is joined by an Adreno 304 GPU and a quad-core 1.1GHz Cortex-A7. Topping this off is a lowly 512MB RAM and 4GB internal storage and you're stuck with that as there isn't even get a MicroSD card slot. Aside from the aforementioned differences and the half sized 2000mAh battery the rest of the features are quite similar to the Q5129T, including the same 5MP rear and 2MP front cameras with autofocus, white balance and HDR.
Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, Micro-USB 2.0 and support for dual mini SIM cards, which in turn are able to use the LTE bandwidth networks. The ZTE Q302C ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat and is available now for under $100; given everything we've seen I would find it very hard to recommend the Q302C, my advice would be to avoid this smartphone and trade up to the much better Q5129T for almost the same price.
