Better detection without compromising performance
We’ve improved our device detection accuracy following feedback raised by our customers, and we’re pleased to announce the release of our upgraded algorithm and data files.
The predictive algorithm has been improved to handle build versions of browsers and platforms more accurately. This allows for better detection of User-Agents that have an uncommon browser or operating system version. The size of the data file has also been reduced by a third. The change was launched today, on 7 June 2023.
One of the benefits of the 51Degrees approach is that this change applies automatically, so there’s no need to change your environment. Cloud users will already be using the new data, but for on-premise users, ensure you are using the latest data files to fully benefit. You could also integrate automatic data file updates to ensure you never miss the latest files.
This change affects Version 3 Hash and Version 4 data files. Alongside the improved algorithm, Version 4 is faster with a smaller data file. It also has support for Google’s changes to the User-Agent, and the new User-Agent Client Hints.
