Weekly Device Data Update

IsWebApp Property Added to 51Degrees Database

51Degrees have added an additional browser property to the database called IsWebApp; this property will be available for all Premium and Enterprise customers. This new property allows the user to tell if it is a browser or an app using a web wrapper to display a websites content. So, from now all browsers will have this property and if they are a web application e.g. Facebook they will now display IsWebApp as TRUE and if it is a browser e.g. Firefox or email client e.g. Outlook then IsWebApp will display as False.

Device Updates

Last week there was 225 new devices added to the 51Degrees database and we will have a look at a few that have been added. This week for our device update we are going to take a closer look at some devices from some less well known brands, but have some interesting unique selling points.

Wiko Highway Pure

The first device is an amazingly thin smart phone from Wiko, the Highway Pure. The Highway Pure is at time of writing the world’s thinnest 4G capable phone on the market, measuring only 5.1mm it also weighs only 98g. This makes it a very portable phone, but it also has some impressive internals, with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 at 1.2 Ghz and 2048MB of RAM. This powers the 4.8” 720p AMOLED screen. This means that there is very little sacrificed to create this very thin phone which is very impressive.

Micromax Phones

Next we will look at two phones from Micromax, The Canvas A1 and the Bolt D303. Firstly the Canvas A1 this phone has been designed to be ready for quick upgrades to the latest Android versions that are released. It is currently running on Android 5.1 and has guaranteed Android upgrades for two years. It is then equipped with fairly standard budget smart phone specs of 1024MB of RAM, a Quad Core processor, 5MP rear and 2MP front camera, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS navigation. Its screen is a vivid 4.5” 480 x 854 pixel screen which is about what you would expect for a budget phone.

Then there is the Bolt D303 which has a very unique and interesting selling point. The phone itself is a fairly low spec 1.3Ghz dual core processor with 512MB of RAM, with a 4” 480x800 LCD screen. 3.2MP front facing and 0.3MP rear facing camera. But it has a very unique feature that it comes loaded with 10 different regional Indian languages, with the feature of swiping to translate messages to and from one of these regional Indian languages and English. This makes it perfect for people in Indian who need to deal with the different regional languages or maybe someone travelling to and around India who needs an easy way of communicating.
