SupportsPhoneCalls property added

New & existing devices now with the new property

This week our data team have been working on bringing the new property of SupportsPhoneCalls. This property indicates if the device can receive and make telephone calls using available bearers without any additional software such as a VoIP client. It will be displayed as a TRUE or FALSE value however there will be a small number of unknowns where the manufacture does not specify phone capabilities. All mobile phones will of course have the value set as true, as shown in the newly added LG AKA.

The LG AKA is the latest midrange phone from LG, boasting a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset with 1536MB of ram, a 5” IPS 720p screen, 4G connectivity and 16GB of internal storage which is expandable using micro SD. However this phone is also offering something a bit different, this phone adds a hint of personality to hardware. Using a smart case that leaves a pair of eyes looking back at you that you can interact with and can display colourful phone notifications. The character of your phone can even be changed by using a different back cover. This is a very unique and interesting application of thee technology you find in midrange smart phones that can liven up your every day tasks.

Phone call Tablets

The Supports phone call property for Tablets is a different story and just because it supports 3G does not mean that it will be able to make phone calls. However the recently added SHIFT7 does support telephone calls. The SHIFT7 is a crowd funded tablet made by SHIFT Phones that have been rolling out to backers of the project since February 2015 and is now available for purchase. It uses the MediaTek MT8382 with 1024MB of RAM, it has 8.0MP rear and 2.0MP front cameras, 3G connectivity, and a 7” HD screen.

Satellite Navigation Property

This week the data team has also added a new value for Satellite Navigation BeiDou. Beidou is an independent global satellite positioning system developed in China. This is only the third launched independent satellite positioning system joining the american GPS system and the Russian GLONASS system. BeiDou is now being included in Chinese phones and devices using Qualcommm's SOCS like the Microsoft Lumia 640 XL LTE look out for more devices including this feature soon.
