Detect The Latest Samsung Tablet

Galaxy A 7.0 (2016)

This week we take a look at one of the latest pieces of Samsung hardware to be added to our device intelligence, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016). Samsung uses a consistent naming scheme across their product range, in this case the 'Tab' marks the device as a tablet and the alphabet moniker 'A' tells us we're dealing with a mid-range model. For sake of brevity the current device alphabet monikers in order of high-end to low-end is currently S, A, J and E.

The last two bits of information contained within this devices name are the year and the screen size. Using the year instead of an arbitrary naming scheme was until recently previously unheard of, however over the last couple of years the trend has grown tremendously. On one hand it does allow greater consistency and can help to foster a brand within a brand, on the other hand there's a bigger chance of confusion when dealing with different generations. At 51Degrees we ensure our properties fully support all naming schemes ensuring there will never be any confusion in your mobile optimisation.

Turning to the numbers now. As the name implies, there's a 7.0 inch, 1280 x 800 IPS display panel with 24 bits per pixel which gives us a PPI of 215. Inside is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 chipset containing a quad-core 1.3GHz CPU and Adreno 306 GPU. 1.5GB RAM and 8GB internal storage complete the memory allocation, storage can be expanded by a further 200GB via the inbuilt MicroSD slot. To keep everything running smoothly there's a 4000mAh battery providing the juice. Aside from a slightly higher resolution and updated chipset we don't see much innovation brought to the table.

For the budding photographers you'll get a 5MP rear camera with autofocus and 2MP front camera. Other features include GPS, A-GPS, GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.2 with A2DP. There are separate 3G and Wi-Fi only models available, the former supports a single nano SIM card and claims of 11 hours talk time on a single charge. The Samsung Galaxy A 7.0 (2016) ships with Android 5.1 Lollipop and is currently known to be available in black or white colour options.
