Has Windows Phone Smartphone Traffic Share Increased in Europe?

Chart of the Week

Earlier this week Kantar Worldpanel showed that Windows Phone devices now make up 1 in 10 smartphone sales across the five major European markets. This week, 51Degrees takes a look at Windows Phone web traffic share in Germany, The United Kingdom, Italy, France and Spain.

September 2013 - Windows Phone Smartphone Traffic Share - Breakdown By Country

Windows Phone has seen steady smartphone web traffic growth in the 5 major European markets since the start of this year, with an average monthly growth rate of 0.08%. According to Kanter, Windows Phone has overtaken iOS sales in Italy in the last 3 months, however, smartphone web traffic share is still only at 3.5% compared to iOS' 45.5%. Could the Internet Explorer mobile browser be blamed for the lack of web usage on Windows Phone devices?

France has seen the best growth in Windows Phone based smartphone web traffic, with an average increase of 0.14% per month. The increase of Windows Phone smartphone traffic has seemed to have directly impacted Blackberry's share, which has dropped from 2.16% to 1.53% over the last 9 months.
