Barnes & Noble Nook Web Traffic Drops Whilst Amazon Kindle Stay Strong

With Barnes & Noble's Nook revenue dropping 20.2% in Q1 and Amazon's Kindle range seemingly expanding into new territories, this week 51Degrees takes a closer look at web traffic originating from eReaders in the United States.

United States Web Traffic - eReader Vendors

Although the Amazon Kindle has been topping the eReader web traffic charts for a long time, Barnes & Noble's Nook had previously taken a 15.83% share of the market back in January 2012. Since then the Kindle rival has been taking a web traffic nosedive, dropping down to under 10% of all eReader web traffic.

Interestingly the Prestigio eReaders are managing to beat close rivals Coby, with Prestigio taking up over 1% more of the web traffic share. Both companies are seeming to take direct chunks of market share from Barnes & Noble, whilst Amazon seems to have been unaffected.

Bloomberg released a report earlier this week stating that Amazon have been testing a wireless network, hoping to allow customers to connect to the internet through their own network. This comes with speculation over an Amazon smartphone, giving the eCommerce giant a huge chance to branch out and expand it's homegrown hardware lineup.
