51Degrees.mobi launches two new device detection products to support the mobile development community

51Degrees.mobi, the leading provider of device detection, web optimisation and mobile analytics solutions, has today launched two new device detection databases for developers wanting to build the very best mobile web experiences.

51Degrees.mobi offers two robust and reliable solutions. The first, Lite Data, is a free, entry-level device file to meet basic mobile detection requirements and is licensed under the Mozilla Public Licence. The second, Premium Data, is updated weekly and provides a richer set of parameters including physical screen size, input type and recommended button sizes.

The Lite and Premium Data files contain the latest mobile phone types, operating systems and browser configurations, including the newest devices and OS enhancements from Apple, Nokia and Samsung. They’re built using data from a number of sources and are verified with 51Degrees.mobi’s own manual certification process for accuracy and consistency. Each file ensures maximum performance and control for the developer, whilst being simple to implement and manage.

James Rosewell, founder and CEO at 51Degrees.mobi said: “With smartphone penetration in western Europe and North America already at around 40% and the mobile-only internet population expected to grow from 14 million in 2010 to over 780 million by the end of 2015, ensuring a quality mobile experience every time is becoming vitally important to businesses. Developers need to understand a customer’s specific device characteristics in order to tailor and optimise their online experiences.”

Scott Hanselman, Principal Community Architect for Microsoft's ASP.NET said “51Degrees.mobi have an effective solution for ASP.NET developers serious about the mobile web. We’re delighted their new Device Data solution targets Microsoft platforms at launch. We're glad they are ensuring easy use by developers with the choice of both open source and commercial licensing options.”

Already used by over 20,000 developers and over 110 million users every month, 51Degrees.mobi’s tools and services play a key role in supporting businesses maximising every customer interaction.
