51Degrees Detects User-Agents For New OnePlus 5 Smartphone

51Degrees has detected User-Agents for the new OnePlus 5 and an example is shown below:

On the User-Agent above, the ‘A5000’ identifies which OnePlus device it correlates to; and in this case, “A5” is associated to the OnePlus 5 smartphone. In the previous versions of OnePlus devices, ‘A0…’, ‘A2…’, ‘A3…’ were seen on User-Agents, which corresponds to their respective devices. For instance, “A001” relates to OnePlus One and ‘A3003’ to OnePlus 3. So far there is only one model released in the market for OnePlus 5; we expect further models to come out in due time.

About OnePlus 5 Smartphone

OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, founded in December 2013. They are perpetually testing their limits to deliver high-end smartphones at a lower price. Their latest flagship, OnePlus 5, proves this point, which was launched on 27th June 2017 with great promise. One of the features on this device includes a dual camera, which was not present previously. This consists of greater Mega Pixels, as high as 20 MP, producing amazing photography with remarkable clarity. Not only this, the System On Chip is a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. This enables the smartphone to run much smoother.

Looking back at its predecessors

The OnePlus 5 has come a long way. The first device, OnePlus One, was released three years ago. At that time, users were not too sure of OnePlus and where it stood in the market. As more high-quality devices were consistently delivered throughout the coming years, it began to hold ground against bigger brands like HTC, Samsung and so on. The next release was OnePlus Two, in July 2015, with an improvement in the performance. By the time we got the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, the onboard chip was a 2.35GHz Snapdragon 821.

Breaking the chain of releases

OnePlus skipped the OnePlus 4 and moved straight into producing the OnePlus 5 which was in the making for three long years. The reason behind this could be due to a syndrome called Tetraphobia, where number 4 is thought not to bring luck in Chinese culture. Regardless of the naming conventions, OnePlus 5 wants its rightful place in the market and will have to fight off competition from the HTC U11 and Samsung Galaxy S8/S8 Plus.
