Huawei Y6 Pro

This week we take a quick look at the latest Huawei smartphone to be added to our device intelligence, the Huawei Y6 Pro. There are two relatives to this latest smartphone, the first is the Huawei Y6 which was released last summer and is known as the Honor 4A in Huawei's Chinese market. A few months ago a device by the name of the Enjoy 5 was also released to the Chinese market; today we're going to look at the recently available international variant of this smartphone which goes by the name of the Huawei Y6 Pro. You can optimise your web content for all of the devices mentioned in this article with our latest update.

The appearance of the X6 Pro is mostly polycarbonate with a metal frame and a textured rear casing that looks similar to brushed aluminium. Huawei refer to this texturing as a water ripple design. The Y6 Pro features a 5.0 inch HD liquid crystal display with In Plane Switching, 24 bits per pixel, resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels and a PPI of 294. The handset measures 143.1 x 71.8 x 9.7mm, which is rather middle-of-the-road for a 5 inch device. It weighs in at 160g which again is in the average bracket. The Y6 Pro is billed as a mid range handset and joins a growing number of new devices from Huawei including the GX8, Honor 5X and Mate 8.

Specifications wise, the Y6 Pro is powered by a MediaTek MT6735P chipset with a quad-core 1.3GHz Cortez-A53 CPU and Mali-T720 MP2 GPU. It comes with 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and expandable storage support for a further 128GB. The key feature of the Y6 Pro is the very large 4000mAh battery. Huawei claim this will deliver up to 39 hours of talk time and last up to 24 hours with just 10 percent battery via the Smart Power Saving mode. The battery also supports both fast charging and reverse charging. The latter enables you to use the Y6 Pro's battery to charge another device via micro-USB, such as Bluetooth headphones or a friend's smartphone.

The handset features a 13MP rear unit and a 5MP front shooter, autofocus, touch focus, face detection, LED flash, HDR and panoramic shot all as standard. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP and LE, WI-FI 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi hotspot and Wi-Fi direct, GPS, A-GPS and GLONASS support as well as standard 4G LTE/3G/2G with dual micro SIM support. The Huawei Y6 Pro is available in three colours; gold, silver and grey. It has Android 5.1 Lollipop with Huawei's Emotion UI 3.1 Lite overlay. Depending what region you're in, the Y6 Pro should be available now or soon and should cost you the equivalent of, or under the $300 mark. Overall the Y6 Pro looks to be a solid offering in a crowded market.
